360 camera blog

Until a few years ago, a 360-degree camera capability was restricted only for premium cars, however, off-late, several OEMs have started including this capability in many of the new four-wheelers being launched across India.

So, while, the addition of a 360-degree security system in the newly launched cars by OEMs, may only be a unique selling proposition for attracting more and more customers belonging to the lower segments of car models. We believe that 360° security system plays a very important role in the overall well-being of not just the car, but the passengers, as it allow users to stay aware of surroundings and at the same time allowing to park safely.

To start with, a 360° security system includes at least four cameras, plugged into the front and rear bumpers, and under the rear-view side mirrors. The video data output from all four cameras are clubbed together by the bird-view system software to render the complete 360° surround view of the car – as seen from a top bird’s eye view angle.

What are the Benefits of such a System, you ask?

  • A 360° system can make the chances of you meeting an accident drop-down, practically to a single percent, yes that’s correct, just 1%. While parking, it lets you gauge the surroundings, as well as, the blind spots better, at the same time showing whether the car is parked straight and within the guidelines or not.
  • Another important, yet a basic benefit a 360° system provides is that it allows for viewing angles which the typical rear view or even the side view mirrors are not capable to show. So, if you were manoeuvring through an extremely narrow passage, and, you aren’t sure whether the car fender will hit the obstacle or not, a 360° system can make that tense and tough navigation, as easy as a breeze.
  • Faster and easier detection of Blind Spots using the cameras placed under the side mirrors. When the side indicators are turned on, the live footage from either side of the cars is switched on and displayed on the system, allowing you to switch lanes or take that turn safely.
  • The 360° system is also capable of providing digital video recording simultaneously for safeguarding and preparation of evidence in the case of an accident dispute.
  • Lastly, but, most importantly, 360° system can be configured and installed on heavy vehicles as well as machinery. The driving difficulty or one can say, the lack of visibility in a heavy vehicle is far higher as compared to a passenger car or even a 4-wheel drive SUV, this is because higher cab position only makes it harder for the heavy vehicle driver to pay attention to objects/people closer to that heavy vehicle. Since, heavy vehicles use front wheels to turn right / left, so, therefore, as heavy vehicles are turning right / left, their front and back wheels are not on the same track.

That’s where 360° system offer enhanced capability over the traditional rear view and side-view mirrors, as 360° system shows the all-round view of heavy vehicles and eliminates all the blind zones around the vehicles, so as to provide safer and more convenient services to the drivers.
